Service Description: Some of the trails in this dataset were generated from crowd-sourced .gpx files made available by and with the permission of hikingproject.com. The .gpx files were converted to point feature classes, then to polylines. Locational data is not exact. Some trails have been adjusted manually according to aerials and hillshade layers generated from a 2019 digital elevation model (from the NC Floodplain Mapping Program). Other trails were mapped using data from the United States Forest Service, Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, and other entities.
